Fresh Lumpia


Lumpiang Sariwa or fresh spring rolls are made up of minced ubod or heart of palm, crushed peanuts, flaked chicken and turnips that acts as an extender wrapped in lettuce and egg crepe.

Lumpiang Sariwa is a vegetable dish wherein different kinds of vegetables are wrapped in a raw and soft egg wrapper topped with crushed peanut and sweet sauce. Different variations have come up like lumpiang ubod, which is made of heart of palm, and lumpiang hubad or same as lumpiang sariwa but without the wrapper.

 Ingredients for filling

2 cups     cubed sweet potato
2 T    fish sauce or patis
1 lb    shredded cabbage
1 ½ c    julienned carrots
½ cup    water
½ cup     crushed peanuts
6 pcs    shredded lettuce
½ lb    thinly sliced pork
1 pack    extra firm tofu, strips thinly
1 cup    shelled and deveined shrimp
2 cups    chopped string beans (baguio beans)
½ cup     chopped cilantro
3 T    minced garlic
   pork cube


1. Cooking Procedure for the Filling:
  • 1.1. Heat oil in a pan, sauté garlic and onion
  • 1.2. Add in the pork and cook until light brown
  • 1.3. Put pork cube and ½ cup water, continue simmering until the pork is tender
  • 1.4. Add in the sweet potatoes and shrimp and wait for the potatoes to soften
  • 1.5. Put in the tofu and continue cooking for few more minutes
  • 1.6. Add cilantro, string beans and carrots, mix thoroughly
  • 1.7. Add cabbage and cook for another 5 minutes
  • 1.8. Add fish sauce to taste, mix and set aside
Ingredients for Lumpia Wrapper

1 cup    all-purpose flour
2 pcs    eggs, raw
2 T    cooking oil
½ t    salt
1½ cups    evaporated milk

2. Make the Wrapper
  • 2.1. Crack the eggs in a mixing bowl, beat
  • 2.2. Add the milk gradually while beating
  • 2.3. Add all-purpose flour and salt while mixing thoroughly
  • 2.4. Add the oil and mix
  • 2.5. Set the stove into medium heat and heat the non-stick pan
  • 2.6. Melt butter or spray it with oil
  • 2.7. Pour half a cup of wrapper mixture and tilt the pan to even the mixture
  • 2.8. Cook until the mixture is dry
  • 2.9. Use a spatula in removing the cooked wrapper and place in a plate. Set aside
Ingredients for the sauce

1 T    soy sauce
½ c    brown sugar
2 cups    water
½    pork cube
1T    minced garlic
1T    cornstarch (dilute in 4T water)

3. Make the Sauce
  • 3.1. Pour water and bring to a boil in a saucepan
  • 3.2. Add the pork cube and brown sugar
  • 3.3. Add salt and soy sauce, mix well
  • 3.4. Pour the diluted cornstarch in the saucepan
  • 3.5. Stir while cooking until thickens. Set aside.
4. Wrapping the filling
  • 4.1. Place the wrapper in a flat plate
  • 4.2. At the middle top of the wrapper, put the lettuce leaf
  • 4.3. Spoon the filling and place the filling on the wrapper, which is over the lettuce
  • 4.4. First, fold the lower part of the wrapper then roll both sides to seal the filling
5. Pour the sauce on to the sealed Lumpiang Sariwa and garnish with peanuts and garlic
6. Serve and enjoy!

one of my fave.. i so love fresh lumpia it gives me hard time as in real hard time to get all the ingredients but its all worth it..
