Being a blogger, or a food blogger in particular, can have its many perks. Getting a dinner invite at a not-so-shabby restaurant, like Choi City, is one of them. Choi City Seafood Restaurant was recognized as the “Chinese Restaurant of the Year 2012“ on their first year of operation here in Cebu. Dining here is like experiencing “a taste of Hong Kong without having to travel a thousand miles.” Therefore, being a foodie living in Cebu not having step foot on such a first-class award-winning dining abode is but a slap to the face, which is why my time there was definitely a privilege.
Choi City Seafood Restaurant is said to be the leading, if not the only, Cantonese and Chinese fine dining restaurant here in Cebu. They have been serving the Filipinos with sumptuous Chinese cuisine for many years, and their branch here is the first one outside of Manila where their maiden chain is located. Lucky Cebuanos, aren’t we? They offer their customers 200+ delectable dishes, which are all carefully prepared by well-trained and experienced chefs (Yes! Not one, but four, in-charge of dim sum and roasting separately), who’d ensure the use of only the finest ingredients.
Now, you might think — world-class ambiance + well-trained chefs + finest ingredients = $$$. Wrong! Despite the use of only the best, their prices are at a competitive range. That being said, you’d come to a realization that their topmost priority is to get satisfactory remarks coming from customers of different shapes and sizes (of the bank accounts, that is). So, it is therefore a fact that anyone CAN experience an explosive gastronomical Chinese cuisine experience — thanks to Choi City!
When I hear “Chinese food”, lumpia shang hai, siomai and pancit always comes to mind. But ever since the Choi City experience, that changed. Their food choices range from the familiar Braised Patatim, Roast Layered Pork, and Wanton Noodle Soup, to the not-so common Hainanese Chicken, Fried Pigeon, and Peking Duck. What caught my attention was that they served a variety of seafood, too, no less! This is a bit different from the food that I’m used to seeing in Chinese menus, but I’m not even complaining. They serve Rock Lobster in Superior Sauce with E-fu Noodles, Fried Sea Mantis with Salt and Pepper, Steamed Live Scallops with Garlic, and Traditional Style Lapu-Lapu. And the list goes on.
However, please note that they also serve “the best Shabu-Shabu in town” for only Php 398. But be careful, for this is highly addictive! I say this as I have been a witness to a number of repeat customers, locals and foreigners alike, probably because of the freshest meats and leafy greens that they use, and its special broth — both classic and spicy style. Try the latter if you feel like going extreme, which is also my personal favorite. And have I mentioned it’s eat-all-you-can? Believe me, you’ll find yourself craving for more. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!
